Getting Here
Brittany Country Gite is located in La Haute Houssais, near St Maden, close to the medieval port town of Dinan. To find us on a map, locate Dinan, then trace down the D766 (to the west/left of Dinan) and you'll find St Maden to the east/right, before you get to Caulnes.
By Ferry You can cross from Dover to Calais, from Newhaven to Dieppe, from Portsmouth to Caen or from Portsmouth to St Malo. Your choice will depend on your preference for price versus driving distance in France. St Malo is obviously the nearest port being only about 40 minutes drive but it is also the most expensive crossing. We find the Newhaven Dieppe crossing a good compromise as the journey from Dieppe takes about 4 hours and you pass by a great view of the Mont St Michael on the way. The ferry is modern and large and private cabins can be booked for approximately £20, which makes the journey on the boat easier and more relaxing.
By Plane You may choose to fly in which case with the budget airlines you have the choice of Stansted to Dinard with Ryan Air or flying into Rennes from Southampton with FlyBe. There will also be other options via Paris of course with Air France, British Airways and other airlines.
By Train. You may choose to take the train in which case you could travel from London to Paris and then on to St Malo or Rennes on the TGV. It can be more difficult top take bikes on the TGVs so other local trains are available. From Rennes you could get a very easy connection to Caulnes, which is only a few km away from St Maden.We are happy to discuss your travel options with you and will provide detailed maps at the time of booking.
